Two Options, Both World Class

Everyone gets tired and hungry, right? But, only a few people, who offer food, minds about the way they prepare it and even the services offered together with it.
Yes, food is a basic need for us humans since the energy we use for work comes from it. , thus making it truly essential for human beings to eat food.

Yet, in return, it is also a big problem for us to be able to serve and eat food at the right time and the right place. And this becomes a great opportunity for establishing fast food chains and carenderias ("food haus", as some people would call it are stores that provide Filipinos a cheaper option for eating, dating back since the old era, and has become a tradition to many Filipinos, more likely known as a street food restaurant in other nation). Both fast food and carenderias do well in their field, which is, serving food to people, who find it hard to find time to prepare it themselves or people who are in a hurry and hungry that  just want to have something to fill their stomachs. But, comparisons are still made between them. Probably, these comparisons are rooted from the dishes they serve, the services they offer, their facilities and the venue.

I have known several carendierias an example would be Joweldon and Browngate, who have one common menu, which is prokchop. Porkchop is a dish made from slices of pork marinated for over 30mins, but best marinated overnight, coated with a mixture of flour, egg and breadcrumbs, then seasoned to tase, and is cooked by deep frying the coated slices of pork in a hot pan. There is a little distinction about the two, yet, not one of them disappoints your meticulous taste, it is prepared by their finest cook, with some secret ingredients added.

I have known several carenderias namely Joweldon and Browngate, who have one common menu, that is prokchop. There is a little distinction about the two, yet, not one of them disappoints your meticulous taste.

Joweldon's prokchop is different from Browngate's, because it is covered with crumbs that add to its texture and is usually complimented by a sauce, made from a mixture of spices, which is made manually by them. Whereas Browngate's porkchop is crispy outside with a characteristic of juiciness inside. Yet, aside from this dish, there is one more dish that certainly is the best, maybe because of its truly affordable price but delicious taste.

This dish is no other than the famous meatballs (which is commonly known as bola-bola). Meatballs are being sold in almost all carenderias. Certain carenderias like Royal Cafe and Joweldon, as mentioned earlier, at affordable prices. This is also very true with the famous fast food restuarant Jollibee, who sells meatballs as a part of their famous affordable menu, the 39ers (read as "thirty nine-ers"), whose picture appears below.

Although Jollibee offers the same dish, the way the food is prepared and served is clearly different from an ordinary carenderia. Their meatballs is served in a neatly manner, placed in a plate added with a special sauce. While in a carenderia, it is cooked in advance and displaced in a glass container, which would be then served if a costumer orders it.
But the sad truth is that this meal, the 39ers doesn’t come with any drink, and you would have to add additional payment for the meal to have drinks. The big switch? In a carenderia, your thirty nine pesos is enough to satisfy your hunger, not to mention, this already comes with a drink. The prices of carenderia dishes are very reasonable and the food presentation is a sure thumbs up! An example of this, is the way carenderias present their meatballs. Joweldon’s meatballs are submerged in a thick sauce showered with a lot of spices and topped with evenly cut onion chives, same with Royal Café’s

Fast food chains and carendierias are not only about food because costumers must be satisfied with the services being offered to them. Another factor would be the place or the location or place of the restaurant. Costumers love to eat when, of course, the space is neat and wide enough for the accommodation of costumers especially during peek hours. Space is quite a big problem for some fast food chains, like Jollibee and McDonalds, especially in Ayala Center Cebu branches. In contrast to that, carendierias like Royal Café, Browngate, NJ and Shan Food haus offers a wide space, enough to accommodate many costumers that are had a tiring day, or maybe just plain hungry costumers. But it is not enough to offer big or wide space, of course there must be allot of chairs and tables. If there isn’t any chair or table available, the costumer would pic somewhere else to eat. Yet, space is only one of the examples of services being offered to costumers. Another example of services offered to us is the cleanliness of the utensils we use, as of course, consumers the food they offer.Nobody would want to eat in a carenderia or a fast food restaurant knowing that their health might be at risk.
The after mentioned is clearly seen fast food chains like Jollibee and also in McDonalds, all their branches provide utensil heaters to assure cleanliness and  to give importance to every costumer’s health. But, carendierias are not behind when we talk about this because they find alternative ways to provide clean utensils.
But services will be truly nothing if not paired with a good and approachable staff. This is very true with fast food chains and carendierias. It is truly inviting you to eat either in a fast food restaurant or carenderia if the food is good plus the good services being offered.

It is very obious to us, that during this time of season, especially summer where, heat is a famous remark. Due to this, we, costumers prefer to eat in well ventilated stores. A carenderia, sad to say can only afford electric fans to cool their costumers, who are looking for cooler places to eat.

In contrast to this are the air conditioned branches of the famous fast food chains Jollibee and Mcdonalds, which are usually preferred by allot of costumers. At this point, carendierias are obviously handicapped by the high tech and state of the art facilities of the fast food chains like Jollibee, KFC etc... Some services offered by the fast food chains are examples of good products produced by new technologies like the photobooth, hand dryers, automatic flushing system in the comfort rooms,  icecream and softdrinks vending machine and the cooker for lots of their products that exceptionally is the best contributor for the fast cooking of the meals that are being ordered by the costumers. Another example would be the charging for the mobile phones station in KFC branches, it is the first in all fast food restaurants that offers charging stations for the mobile phones, which gives KFC an edge in the fast food chain competition. Where as, carendierias cook dishes in advance and display them so that people would see it. But, from all these technology, it is still never too late for carendierias to prove that they are a big threat to fast food restaurants. And this is proven by a certain carenderia in Talamban, Cebu, which offers a fi-fi hot spot when you eat there and this is the NJ and Shan Foodhaus, Truly amazing right? The NJ and Shan Foodhaus truly shows us that carendierias are not that far behind with the fast food chains today, because they are trying there best to draw in their costumers with their unique strategy, which other carendierias are still adapting.

In all, the decision on where to dine in is really up to the costumer and their needs. One may dine in a carenderia in order to payless rather in a fast food, because in a fast food, you are also paying for its name and the food severed right before you. Compared to a carenderia, you still eat good food yet, these dishes are served with affordable prices that assure you a full stomach but does not hurt your pocket. Garnishes or the way the costumer’s food is presented is not even a problem for both options. Either you choose one from the other, both options assure their costumers that they are simply offering their best service and grandest facilities

From all the food trips, it is enough to give these carendierias credits, for trying their very best to compete with famous fast food chains. For adapting technological changes and finding better ways to serve their costumers, but still with low price menus compared to fast food chains.

Assignments for figures of Orality.

1. How does food become the center of power relations between master and slaves?.
Food that is served on the table of slaves is different from whicich could be found on a master's table. It is because slaves can only afford to eat foods that cost less, meanwhile, a slave's master could afford sumptuous meals and banquets. Aside from that, the number of times a slave eats in a day differ from the times his/her master does

from the points stated food gives us the power relations between the master and the slave. Therefore, masters remain to be the superior than the slave

2. How is food with a mother?
Food is associated with a mother because food is a basic need in order for us to survive through this world of uncertainty. The food serves as our strength in every trial that life gives us

just like our mothers, back to the time that we were still inside her womb, she provided us  the nutrients and the food to survive. While inside our mother's womb, her body served us our protection as we continuously grow and develop.
